Freediving, also known as skin diving, is a form of underwater diving that relies on breath-holding until resurfacing, rather than on the use of breathing apparatus such as scuba gear.

Diving in Casa Cenote offers a unique and dynamic experience, requiring a combination of skills suited for both open water and cavern environments. The dive is relatively shallow, with depths ranging from 6 to 8 meters (20 to 25 feet), making it accessible to divers with basic open water certification. However, divers need good buoyancy control to navigate the narrow passages and avoid disturbing the delicate environment. The cenote features a mix of fresh and saltwater, forming a halocline that creates a wavy, distorted effect on visibility, so divers must adapt to the changing clarity.
During the dive, they will encounter lush mangrove roots reaching into the water, vibrant green algae, and a variety of fish like tarpon, which often glide between the shadows. Casa Cenote’s labyrinth of tunnels and open spaces provides a sense of adventure while allowing light to penetrate, creating stunning visual effects and making it an excellent spot for photographers and divers looking to explore an open-water-style cenote with cavern characteristics.
