Many of the Riviera Maya's most iconic cenote dives require stronger buoyancy, better trim, and greater confidence underwater. Advanced Open Water helps you develop the skills needed to access more challenging cenote dives in Tulum, such as Angelita and El Pit.

Advanced Open Water is practical, hands-on learning designed to expand your experience underwater. Through five Adventure Dives you'll explore Tulum's varied dive environments while continuing to build confidence and develop skills beyond the basics.

All of our instructors have advanced cave and technical diving backgrounds, bringing valuable experience to key skills like buoyancy and navigation. Combined with years of diving in the Riviera Maya, you'll learn with professionals who know Tulum's dive sites inside and out.

Minimum age
Participants must be a minimum of 12 years old
Open Water Certified
Must hold a PADI Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent from another recognized training organization).
Health Requirements
Before diving, everyone completes a short medical questionnaire to make sure scuba diving is suitable and safe for them.


Your Advanced Open Water course includes five Adventure Dives over two days. Two dives are required:

You’ll then choose three additional Adventure Dives. Popular options include:

Adventure Dives are chosen based on conditions, experience level, and your interests. If there's something specific you'd like to focus on, just ask and we'll let you know what's possible.
You’ll also complete PADI e-learning before or during the course, which usually takes around 6–8 hours.

No. You only need to be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent) to enrol in the Advanced course.
The course includes five adventure dives. Two dives are required for all students: Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation Dive. The other three adventure dives are chosen from a range of options depending on local conditions and what the dive center offers.
We can help you select the best adventure dives based on conditions, availability and your interests.
Advanced Open Water Divers are certified to dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters (100 feet).
No final exam is required. The course focusses mainly on gaining experience through adventure dives with short knowledge reviews for each dive.
Advanced Open Water helps build the confidence and experience needed for deeper and more challenging cenote dives in Tulum, including sites like Angelita and El Pit.
Some cenotes are suitable for newer divers, while others require stronger buoyancy, trim, and comfort underwater.
