What to Expect on a Cenote Dive Tour

Our tours are designed to be relaxed and personal, with a maximum of four divers per guide.

Typical two-dive tour time: around 8:00 am - 2:00 pm. Three-dive tours usually return around 3:30 pm, depending on the cenotes visited.

Is cenote diving safe?

Yes. Cenote diving is very safe when conducted with experienced professional cavern guides and proper procedures. To ensure safety we:

✅ Stay within the natural light zone of the cavern
✅ Follow permanent guide lines
✅ Use conservative gas planning for every dive
✅ Provide a detailed pre-dive safety briefing

Do I need to be cave certified to dive cenotes?

No. We offer guided cenote cavern dives, which means you always remain within sight of natural light and the exit. These dives do not require cave certification and are suitable for certified open water divers with good buoyancy control. All dives are guided by experienced professional cavern guides and conducted according to strict cavern diving safety standards.

What certification level do I need for cenote diving?

You must be a certified Open Water diver or higher to participate in cenote diving. Divers should feel comfortable in the water and have good buoyancy control. If you haven't dived recently, we may recommend a refresher dive in Casa Cenote before exploring the cenotes.

Do I need a refresher dive before cenote diving?

If you haven't dived recently, we may recommend a refresher dive before exploring the cenotes. We often do these in Casa Cenote, which has a large open-water area where divers can practice key skills such as mask clearing, regulator recovery and buoyancy control. This helps you get comfortable in the water again so you can fully enjoy your cenote dives.

What makes cenote diving different from ocean diving?

Cenote diving offers a completely unique experience compared to ocean diving. Divers explore crystal-clear freshwater caverns with dramatic limestone formations, light beams, and haloclines where saltwater and freshwater meet. Visibility often exceeds 100 meters (300 feet), making cenotes some of the most visually stunning dive environments in the world.

What is the minimum age for cenote diving?

Most cenote dive sites require divers to be at least 15 years old due to the overhead environment and additional safety considerations. Divers must also be certified and comfortable with buoyancy control.

Can kids or families go cenote diving?

Yes. Many families with certified teenage divers enjoy cenote diving together. The minimum age for cenote diving is 15 years old, and all divers must hold at least an Open Water certification. For first time cenote divers or families, we often recommend beginner-friendly cenotes such as Casa Cenote. For families with younger children, we're happy to recommend ocean dives or snorkeling options.
