The hydrogen sulphate cloud here is dense, sitting at around 30m/100ft.
This cloud, alongside the perfectly preserved tree trunks and branches found in the Cenote, gives the surreal illusion of an underground lake and island.
Divers surface from Cenote Angelita, each with a unique perspective of what they’ve just experienced — from a Haunted House, Misty Swamp and Foggy Forest effect to scenes from Star Wars on planet Dagobah. You have to experience it for yourself to understand!

El Pit is an amazing huge sink hole Cenote found deep in the jungle.
Entry is a 6m/20ft climb down a wooden staircase, with amazing rays of bright turquoise light beaming down from the sun to the hydrogen sulphate cloud forming at 30m/100ft deep within it.
As we descend down to the cloud, we’ll pass through a halocline at 15m/70ft, where we’ll see perfectly preserved trees sticking out from the mud island in the centre.
Once we reach the cloud, we’ll swim into and become engulfed by it, disappearing and then reappearing again — the ideal shot for your Go Pro cameras!
After a few minutes engulfed by this experience, we’ll slowly start our ascent circling the edges of the huge collapse, reaching the ceiling of the cavern at around 15m/35ft, thereby finishing off our dive witnessing the various formations and amazing shafts of laser beam lights.

As our Guided Cenote Diving Tours typically meet at 8am, we confirm the schedule the evening before. That said, it may be possible to arrange a same day tour if we receive the inquiry early enough. We will do what we can to help.
You will require a minimum of PADI Open Water (or equivalent) to dive in the cenotes. Some cenotes require a minimum of Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) as they are deeper dives. Some cenotes require an assessment dive to ensure good buoyancy control to protect the dive environment.
If you wish to explore a cenote but are not yet certified, the Discover Scuba Diving experience could be perfect for you. If you're ready to get certified and start exploring, find out about our PADI courses here.
The minimum age to dive in a cenote is 15 years.
Not all cenotes are suitable for snorkeling so this would be one of the deciding factors. Casa Cenote, Car Wash and Dos Ojos provide an excellent experience for divers and snorkelers alike. Our guides can take a maximum of 4 divers and if there is space in the vehicle (i.e. the dive is not full) they can take a non-diver along. The charge is $70 USD and does not include cenote entrance fees.
If you are a large mixed ability group, please get in touch and we can work out something bespoke for you.
In order to secure your place on one of our Guided Cenote Diving Tours, please get in touch via the contact form on the website or WhatsApp. Please provide the following information:
Your certification (Open Water, Advanced Open Water etc).
Number of dives logged
Date of last dive (month/year)
Dates you would like to dive
Cenotes you would like to dive (if you have a preference)
After confirming your schedule, we will provide instructions for paying a deposit to secure your place.
The Riviera Maya is famed for its cenotes and Tulum is perfectly placed to access the world's best cenote diving. If you have never considered cenote diving before it is definitely worth giving it a try while you're in the area as it's a pretty unique diving experience. It would be a shame to miss out!
However, if it's really not for you, we do offer reef diving (conditions permitting).
If you have less than 20 dives and have not been diving in over a year, we would strongly recommend a dive at Casa Cenote before diving a Cenote Cavern such as Dos Ojos. It is important when you enter an overhead environment that you have practised the basic skills (e.g. mask clearing, regulator recovery) and that you are comfortable with your buoyancy. Casa Cenote has a large open area where these skills can be practised with your guide before enjoying this beautiful dive.
