Cenote Snorkeling FAQs

Do I need a guide to snorkel in cenotes?

Some cenotes allow independent swimming, but guides are required for cavern areas. A guided snorkel allows you to safely explore parts of the system most visitors don't see.

Are cenotes cold?

Cenote water stays around 24-25 C (75-77 F) year-round. Many people are comfortable without a wetsuit, but one can be provided if needed.

Is snorkeling in cenotes safe?

Yes. Cenotes are generally calm with excellent visibility. Your guide will show you where to swim and explain the best way to explore the caverns.

Which cenote is best for snorkeling in Tulum?

Both Dos Ojos and Casa Cenote offer very different experiences.

Dos Ojos is known for crystal-clear water, dramatic cavern formations, and the chance to visit the famous Bat Cave, while Casa Cenote offers a relaxed mangrove setting with shallow water and jungle scenery.
