What is Discover Scuba Diving?

Discover Scuba Diving is a beginner experience created by PADI for people who want to try scuba diving without committing to a full certification course.

What to Expect

We run our Discover Scuba Diving experiences in Casa Cenote - a calm, crystal-clear cenote that offers an ideal environment for beginners.

With easy shore entry, excellent visibility and no waves or boat entry, it's a relaxed place to learn the basics and enjoy your first underwater experience at a comfortable pace.

You'll still get the excitement of breathing underwater and seeing marine life - just in an environment designed to help first-time divers feel comfortable.

Discover Scuba Diving FAQs

Do I need any experience to try Discover Scuba Diving?

No experience is required. Discover Scuba Diving is designed for complete beginners and is conducted under the close supervision of a PADI instructor.

Is Discover Scuba Diving a certification?

No. Discover Scuba Diving is an introductory experience that lets you try scuba diving for the first time. If you enjoy it, you can continue with the PADI Open Water Diver course.

How deep do you go on a Discover Scuba Diving experience?

Participants usually dive to a maximum depth of 12 meters (40 feet) under instructor supervision.

Can Discover Scuba Diving count toward the Open Water course?

Yes. If you enjoy your Discover Scuba experience, some of the skills and experience can count toward the PADI Open Water Diver course, making it a great first step if you decide you’d like to become a certified diver.

Can I do Discover Scuba Diving in Dos Ojos or other cenotes?

For safety reasons, Discover Scuba Diving experiences are only available in beginner-friendly environments like Casa Cenote.

Cenotes such as Dos Ojos are overhead environments and require divers to hold an appropriate scuba diving certification.

The good news is that once certified through the PADI Open Water Diver course, you'll be able to start exploring many of Tulum's incredible cenote dives.
