Cenote Angelita offers one of the most unusual dives in the world. At around 30 meters, a dense layer of hydrogen sulphide forms a surreal white "cloud", creating the illusion of an underground river flowing between fallen trees and rocky formations.
The famous underwater river
The thick white cloud layer creates the appearance of a river running through the cavern - a truly unique sight.
A deep, atmospheric dive
Descending through the darker water above the cloud creates a dramatic and unforgettable experience.
Surreal landscape
Tree branches and rock formations appear to rise through the cloud, making the entire scene feel completely otherworldly.

Angelita is famous for a dense hydrogen sulphide layer that forms a cloud inside the cenote. This creates the illusion of a misty underground river with fallen trees rising from it like a small island, creating one of the most surreal scenes in cenote diving.
Below the hydrogen sulphide layer lie the remains of trees that fell into the cenote thousands of years ago. Preserved in the oxygen-poor water, their branches appear to rise out of the mist, adding to the strange river-like illusion.
The cenote's deep shaft and surrounding jungle canopy allow less sunlight to reach the water, giving the dive a darker and more mysterious atmosphere.
